The Ahr flood in July 2021 caused serious damage to the shore areas, promenades and parks with destructive force. From the formerly nrealy parallel embankments, the river formed a new bank topography and in places shifted its course. In 2022, we drew up a master plan for the revitalization of public open spaces for Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. The idea is to develop a coherent park landscape based on the new terrain, which allows for its own dynamics and mitigates future floods through retention and increased flow - spatial qualities, flood protection and nature conservation form a unit. The new local recreation band is intended to bring the river closer to the people of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler as a piece of nature in the city.
