Leonard Grosch
Managing Partner Creative Director

Leonard (*1973) knew that he wanted to become an architect while still at school. Following an apprenticeship in Munich as grower of perennial plants he decided to study landscape architecture at Technische Universität Dresden. His love for Scandinavian design brought him for one year to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen before he obtained his diploma at Technische Universität Berlin. In 2003 Leonard joined Atelier Loidl as competitions manager. After the inauguration of the Park am Gleisdreieck, he co-authored the book `Designing Parks` together with Constanze A. Petrow about strategies for the successful design of urban parks in large cities. Since 2006 Leonard is partner and managing director of Atelier Loidl. He is responsible for design and customer acquisition.

Bernd Joosten
Managing Partner Office Director

Bernd (*1966) was shaped by the environmental movement of the 1980s. For seven years he worked in gardening, landscaping and finalised his years as a craftsman receiving the title of master craftsman from the Gartenbauschule (school of horticulture) of the Chamber of Agriculture of North Rhine-Westphalia in Essen. 1994 Bernd moved to Berlin. He studied landscape architecture at Technische Universität Berlin where he met Prof. Hans Loidl and became his employee in 1996. During his first years with Atelier Loidl Bernd was responsible for detailed design, contracting and construction management. Later on he lead projects and competitions. After Hans Loidl left the practice Bernd became partner and managing director in 2004. He has since then, been responsible for the development of the practice and for establishing it as a well-recognised company in the field.

Felix Schwarz
Managing Partner Technical Director

Felix (*1971) came to landscape architecture while working for a garden and landscaping business. He studied at Technische Universität Berlin and, having received his diploma, worked as project leader and office manager for Weidinger Landschaftsarchitekten. Looking for a challenge he was given the opportunity to take on the planning of Park am Gleisdreieck for Atelier Loidl in 2007. After some years as project leader Felix is now partner and managing director. He is responsible for conceptual and detailed design as well as for project realisation. In 2022 Felix was appointed to the Academy of Arts Berlin, section of architecture.

Martin Schmitz
Managing Director and Competition Leader

Martin (*1986) at first wanted to become a teacher, but spontaneously decided to study landscape architecture at the HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen. During his master's degree at TU Berlin, he worked at Hahn Hertling von Hantelmann Landschaftsarchitekten. In 2013 he won the AIV Schinkel Prize and the following year the Peter Joseph Lenné Prize. Martin loves concept work and is particularly interested in projects with ecological and social ambitions. He has been at Atelier Loidl since 2013 and manages the competitions there. At LU Hannover, Martin has been teaching at the Department of Landscape Architecture and Design since 2019 and is a guest judge at various universities.

Anna Kristina Heenes
Human Relations

Anna (*1976) studied social sciences in Hannover and media consulting at Technische Universität and Humboldt Universität Berlin (diploma). She worked for a training programme for European filmmakers, Foodwatch, a political communications agency and in online marketing. She trained as a systemic coach at Coaching Akademie Berlin. Today she works as a freelance consultant for vermittelpunkt in Berlin. In 2015 she joined Atelier Loidl.

Tabea (*1997) first trained as a landscape gardener in Mannheim before beginning her studies in landscape architecture. Her passion for craft creativity and connection to nature led her on her path. Inspired by her time as an intern at Atelier Loidl, she stayed in Berlin and has since joined the project team as a student assistant. Tabea's passion is in creative design, a passion for plants and creating social and sustainable spaces.

Andreas (*1977) served his alternative civilian service at the biological research station of a nature reserve. Afterwards he completed an apprenticeship as landscape gardener. From 2001 on he studied landscape architecture and open space planning at Fachhochschule Osnabrück. A work placement with Stephan Bernard Landschaftsarchitekten brought him to Berlin, and later to Atelier Loidl. Andreas was involved in the project Park am Gleisdreieck from 2006 up to the inauguration of the park. Since then, he has used his knowledge and expertise for future large-scale projects - such as Quartier Baakenhafen and Quartier Elbbrücken in Hamburg. Since 2005 Andreas holds the position of project leader at Atelier Loidl.

Harald (*1973) studied at Technische Hochschule Berlin after serving his alternative civilian service close to Stuttgart and received his diploma. While still at university he worked for Frank von Bargen Landschaftsarchitektur. Spending a work placement semester in the company led to his employment after finishing his degree. From 2003 on Harald worked for TOPOTEK 1, holding the position of project leader since 2006. He was mainly involved in detailed design, contracting and construction management. After 15 years of extensive experience he was looking for a new challenge. The high quality of detailing in Park am Gleisdreieck and Quartier Baakenhafen caught his attention and brought him to Atelier Loidl. Being a practical person, he is happiest working on the work phases 5 to 9. He pays particular attention to technical realisation. Since 2018 Harald holds the position of project leader at Atelier Loidl.

Pia (*1982) studied architecture at PUC de Valparaíso and worked for Carreño Sartori Arquitectos in Santiago de Chile. She was awarded a scholarship to study in Italy where she received her master's degree in landscape architecture at the University of Florence. Subsequently she moved to Berlin and worked for TOPOTEK 1. Pia joined Atelier Loidl in 2017 as project team member.

Irina (*1974) studied landscape and open space planning at Leibniz Universität Hannover. Having obtained her diploma in 2001 she worked for six months in Cape Town. Her plan was to move for one year to Llangadfan in Wales in order to work for Camlins Landscape Architects as project team member. She stayed there for nine years. In 2010 Irina moved to Berlin and started working as project leader for Atelier Loidl.

Ulrike (*1980) found her way to design from Photography. After training with a photo specialist she studied landscape architecture at Technische Universität Berlin where she received her diploma in 2009. Ulrike was intrigued by large-scale design with a tactile appeal in the real world. She could pursue this interest while working as project leader for Landschafts.Architektur Birgit Hammer and Rainer Schmidt landschaftsarchitekten und stadtplaner. Ulrike joined Atelier Loidl Leas project leader in 2016.

Clara (*1994) decided to study landscape architecture after her education in sculpture and ceramics at the Lisbon School of Art. Here she was inspired to combine her sense of aesthetics with social and environmental dimensions. During her bachelor's degree, she planned to take two semesters of study in Germany at first and stayed. From 2016, she worked at SINAI Landscape Architects as a project associate, then as a project manager at Schönherr Landscape Architects. In 2020, she graduated with a master's degree from TU Berlin. Since May 2022, Clara joined Atelier Loidl and works as a project manager.

Olympia (*1990) decided against studying astrophysics and studied landscape architecture at Universität Kassel instead. What remains of her first interest is her attention to detail and a liking for large-scale projects. Having received her bachelor's degree she left Hesse and obtained her master's degree in landscape architecture at Technische Universität Berlin. Olympia worked for Latz Riehl Partner Landschaftsarchitekten and for k1 Landschaftsarchitekten. She joined Atelier Loidl in 2018 as project leader.

Oliver (*1989) wanted to become an interior designer before he discovered his enthusiasm for gardens and parks. In 2008 he decided to study landscape architecture at the TU Munich. During his studies, Oliver worked at "Nicholas Dexter Gardens" in Brighton (GB) to gain his first planning experience and designed private gardens in collaboration. In 2015 he completed his master's degree in landscape architecture at the TU Munich and went to A24 in Berlin. There he successfully planned parks, squares and garden shows for three years. Since 2019 Oliver has been a project team member at Atelier Loidl.

Michael (*1983) served his alternative civilian service in a sheltered workshop. After his service he supervised children and young people, both with and without disabilities, at a holiday camp. A documentation on sustainable reconstruction captured his interest in landscape architecture. During his studies at Technische Universität Berlin Michael worked for six months for a landscape architecture practice and also on the Philippines on an ecological project on sustainable development of rural areas in Southeast Asia. He worked as student assistant and research assistant for Technische Universität Berlin and also as preliminary examiner in competitions for the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development and Housing. Since 2010 Michael has been working as project team member for Atelier Loidl with the major part of his work concentrating on work phases 2 and 3.

Sumika (*1981) studied a bachelor's degree in sociology and environmental policy in Kyoto. Taking part in a student exchange programme she spent two years of her studies in Germany where she obtained a master's degree in landscape architecture at Technische Universität Berlin. While still at university and after her graduation she worked for SINAI Landschaftsarchitekten. Sumika joined Atelier Loidl as project team member in 2018.

Kristína (*1990) feels drawn to work creatively and towards nature. She studied landscape architecture at Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava and as an Erasmus student at Technische Universität Dresden. Having received her diploma she worked for Peter Zirkel Architekten, where she concentrated on detailed design, for Levin Monsigny Landschaftsarchitekten on competitions and also for TOPOTEK 1. Kristína joined Atelier Loidl in 2018 as project team member.

Alexei (*1961) studied landscape architecture at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (USA). After receiving his diploma Alexei trained as sculptor in San Francisco and moved to Italy where he worked as an independent artist in Pietrasanta. Afterwards he toured the continents for a couple of years before he decided to settle in Europe for good. Alexei worked as project leader for MPFP in New York and for Lützow7, Ariane Röntz and hutterreimann in Berlin. Being an all-rounder he feels at home with all work phases. Alexei joined Atelier Loidl in 2016 as project leader.

Robin (*2000) spontaneously stood in front of the door of Atelier Loidl in 2020 to attend a voluntary 3-month pre-study internship. He liked it so much that he decided to study landscape architecture at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences. The desire to design and plan social spaces where people can meet and feel comfortable attracted him to landscape architecture as much as his enthusiasm for sports. In 2022 during his bachelor's degree, he came back for his required internship and has been a part of our competition team as a student assistant since 2023. In the competition, he particularly enjoys the diversity of tasks and topics, while always keeping an eye on the other work phases.

Arabella (*1996) had an interest from an early age in her work affecting the future. She studied landscape and open space planning at Leibniz University in Hanover and at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Rapperswil. During her studies, she worked at Kortemeier Brokmann Landscape Architects. After finishing her bachelor's degree, she moved to TU Berlin in 2021 for her master's in landscape architecture. Arabella is inspired by the diversity that Berlin offers. Her passion for research-based design and her interest in conceptual work continue to guide her at Atelier Loidl. Since 2022 she supports the projects as a student assistant.

Pascal (*1992) did an apprenticeship as landscape gardener in Deggendorf where he was involved in the realisation of large-scale public projects. He started studying landscape architecture at Technische Universität Berlin (bachelor) and was the winner of the Peter-Joseph-Lenné-Award 2016. In 2021, Pascal graduated with a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from the TU Berlin and has since the beginning been a creative head of our competition team.

After his training as a construction engineer and planner, Nico (*1988) found his way to landscape architecture through travels and longer stays in various cultures around the world. He is particularly attracted to the possibility of creating diverse places in the city and in nature, where people can meet and be with each other. After graduating with a degree in Landscape Architecture from HSR Rapperswil in 2017, he gained his first experience in design and competition planning in Sydney at ASPECT Studios and in Zurich at Haag LA. In search of new perspectives, he was drawn towards Berlin, where he dedicated himself to the planning for the Parkbogen Ost in Leipzig, among other projects, as a project associate at SINAI from 2019. Since 2023, Nico has been working as a project collaborator at Atelier Loidl.

Katharina (*1980) received her Diploma in Architecture 2009 from the Technical University of Berlin. She discovered her love for landscape architecture during her diploma thesis. She has since designed squares and parks for public and private clients in Germany and abroad. Over the years she has been sticking to her passion for architecture, design and nature as well as her interest in climate-neutral planning and construction. After several years as a freelancer, Katharina has been project manager at Atelier Loidl since 2019 and is a landscape architect.

Claudia (*1987) studied architecture in Florence, Italy. Her strong interest in urban renewal and public spaces shifted her main interest to landscape architecture and urban design. Her continuous exploration on public space and human interactions helped her to develop several projects and built installations as a form of urban regeneration. She worked for B2B Arquitectes and TOPOTEK1 before joining the project team of Atelier Loidl in 2023.

Jeroen (*1992) interessierte sich schon in jungen Jahren für das gesamte Spektrum der Raumplanung, was zu einem Bachelor in Architektur und anschließend zu einem Master in Landschaftsarchitektur an der Technischen Universität Delft geführt hat. Während seines Studiums hat er in Amsterdam und Zürich gearbeitet. Nach seinem Studienabschluss durchlief er das Spatial Traineeship Rotterdam und sammelte über einen Zeitraum von zwei Jahren Erfahrungen in vier verschiedenen Designbüros. Die Suche nach einer Synergie zwischen Kultur und Natur ist ein immer wiederkehrendes Thema in seinem Designansatz. Jeroen arbeitet seit 2023 im Atelier Loidl als Mitglied des Projektteams.

Carole (*1978) completed an apprenticeship as landscape gardener before enrolling in landscape architecture at Hochschule für Technik Rapperswil. She worked for Hager Partner AG in Zurich and from 2006 on as project leader for A24 Landschaft. Carole sees projects through all phases and concentrates both on design and technical detailing. She likes a challenge in the field of communication and particularly loves plants. Since 2016 Carole has been working as project leader for Atelier Loidl.

Tatjana (*1987) studied landscape architecture at Hochschule Rhein Main. While still at university she worked for Kuula Landschaftsarchitekten and Hahn Hertling von Hantelmann. 2016 she won the Schinkel Architecture Award of the Association of Architects and Engineers in Berlin (AIV). In 2017 she graduated with a master's degree at Technische Universität Berlin with a thesis on the waterfront concept of Genoa. Tatjana has been working for Atelier Loidl since 2015 and holds the position of project team member for competitions since 2017.

Mario (*1973) studied landscape architecture at the TU Berlin. It was there where he met Hans Loidl as an inspiring mentor. Mario worked for him at the university and taught design to students. In the following years, he explored the field of landscape architecture in various professional roles: He designed and visualized parks and squares, worked as a project manager, managing director, and association director. He developed creative concepts for citizen participation and organized project financing. Today Mario is a speaker and trainer for communication and visualization. Since 2022 he is controller and communication trainer at Atelier Loidl.

Gülhan (*1977) studied landscape architecture in Turkey and graduated from the Berlin University of the Arts. She worked at Venovia and Hager Partner before joining Atelier Loidl in 2023. Gülhan manages projects (especially BIM and monument projects) through all phases of services. She has great interest in 3D design, BIM and AI in architecture and construction site. This is why she has completed the advanced trainings as a BIM designer and BIM coordinator. With the BIM projects, she has increased her BIM knowledge as a BIM Manager.

Hugo (*1987) studied architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, specializing in urban planning and environment. Inspired by the natural landscapes of his home region of Galicia in Spain, he decided that the next step in his career would be to become a landscape architect. After working in various offices in Berlin, including SINAI, and some freelance projects, he specialized in 3D design and BIM. He joined the Atelier Loidl team in May 2023.

Francisco (*1993) studied landscape architecture in the University of Lisbon, Portugal. During that time he also studied as an exchange student in Italy and Brazil. He has been developing a strong interest for urban planning and design of public spaces.He started working at Global studio in Lisbon in 2018 working in public and private spaces. In 2022 he moved to Rio de Janeiro for one year where he worked as a freelancer at Embyá for a public competition and then in Jardim Imaginário in landscape design of private gardens. 2023 he moved to Berlin and joined the project team of Atelier Loidl with a lot of motivation and enthusiasm.

Elisa (*1980) studied architecture in Ferrara (Italy), graduated in 2006 with a Master's degree in Architecture and then worked in different architecture offices in Italy. With a garden therapy project "Flora et Labora" in the south of Italy 2011 Elisa discovered her love for landscape architecture. Since then she combines these two disciplines in her projects. In 2013 she got an EU fellowship for her work on vertical gardens and moved to Berlin. Elisa worked at SINAI and geskes.hack landscape architects before joining Atelier Loidl as a project team member in 2021.

Milad (*1989) studied architecture in Tehran and spent two years planning architectural projects in Iran. In 2013 Milad moved to Germany, three years later he graduated with a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from Anhalt University. Milad worked for Bode-Williams & Partner and STrauma. Milad enjoys the implementation planning and believes that detailed planning is the key to a sustainable, living open space. Since 2019, Milad has been working as a project leader for work phase 5 at Atelier Loidl.

Dorothee (*1968) lives on the Lower Rhine, is a trained carpenter and studied interior design in Darmstadt and product design in Krefeld, where open space design increasingly became a topic. After graduating in 2003, she worked for two years at Büro Penker in Neuss. Already in 2007 Dorothee joined Atelier Loidl in Duisburg/Solingen and worked in particular on the implementation planning for the RheinPark Duisburg. Her enthusiasm for good forms and her weakness for technically clever solutions find their satisfaction here.
