The future Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz is being designed as an innovative urban ecotope that connects animals, plants, and people while responding flexibly to climate change. Located on Leipzig’s Promenadenring, it marks the gateway to the southern part of the city and deliberately sets itself apart from classical 19th-century park designs. With diverse vegetation, the square creates a shaded, cooling microclimate and compensates for the loss of ruderal habitats. Natural soil processes and visible rainwater management are integral to the concept. This results in niches and clearings that promote nature experiences and a modern, communal ecological way of life.
